1970 GMT AUTOMATIC

1970 GMT Automatic was developed in collaboration with renowned watch specialist, Kristian Haagen. As a true feinschmecker, he has an uncompromising eye for quality and along with a lifelong passion for wristwatches, spotting and reviewing quality timepieces has become his livelihood.

1970 GMT Automatic is the result of a careful design process, where only the best could do. A Swiss automatic movement, a sophisticated green-gold bezel and a GMT function gives you a timepiece, unapologetic of its brilliance.

First created for pilots flying across time zones in a matter of hours, the GMT function kept track of both the local time and the time in the place from where they departed. No longer exclusive to the first great travellers of the world, the 1970 GMT Automatic is the perfect companion as you embark on your next adventurous travels.

KRISTIAN HAAGEN

We're honored and humbled of our collaboration with the renowned watch expert Kristian Haagen.

Don't recognize the name? let us present Kristian.

Kristian Haagen is co-founder of the social media for watch lovers Dailywatch, founder of the monthly watch magazine Timegeeks, watch specialist at Vogue Scandinavia, author of eight books on watches, and consultant to some of the world's leading watch companies.

We most likely forgot something, but nonetheless a very impressive resume!

The design of the 1970 GMT Automatic

As a fan of especially vintage watches and the way they patinate with time, I went for earthy tones for the turning bezels.

As a frequent flyer and hence traveling in different timezones, a watch with a GMT was the way to go when designing a timepiece for About Vintage.

Using an automatic Swiss movement was not a desire. It was a demand. The only way to go.

A NATO strap that matches the colour of the dial and/or the 24-hour GMT bezel is the way to wear this watch. However the mesh bracelet also looks amazing, reminding us of yesteryears traveling trends and exotic destinations pre-social media.

Quality time piece

The dial, case, bracelet and clasp all on point. Perfect size in my opinion. Also got very good feedback from friends and family who got to see it on my wrist. Very happy with it!

Hi Prad,

Thank you for your nice review! We appreciate all the kind words. Have an amazing day :-)

Best Regards,

Very nice watch

The watch is absolutely great! But I miss the spring bar at the clasp during the adjustment of the clasp so that the 5-link strap become incomplete! How could I get another one in order to make it become complete again!

Not a 100% for the money spent.

I bought my first About Vintage travellers burgundy limited edition. First impression for me was like lack of colour familiarity. The colours that you see on the website in terms of burgundy and the finish wasn’t satisfying when you get to see them in real. The finishes inside the dial is ok not justifiable to 1000USD. The mesh and stainless steel strap that comes along is too shiny and bright. Also too thin/narrow. But did I like wearing the watch—> absolutely yes. The brown strap that come with it is awesome and feels good in your hand. Swiz movement is great but I am more of a tactile person. When you touch and move the 24 hour dial, you should feel like it is a 1000USD watch but it definitely does not tick that watch. It looks fabulous on photos of me wearing it but does not give me that value for money as it lacks finish. I love the watch— well I have to because I paid 1000USD plus taxes to get it delivered to Australia which in total was $1700AUD— bloody expensive but I don’t mind if it had the value for it. I would give it a 7/10 as it looks classy. But will I get watches from About Vintage—> yes I would certainly do in the future but a cheaper one.
Request from a genuine customer like me—> please work on your finish, your design is good though. Please keep the prices nominal and not over valued.
