1820 HISTORYWe do like naming our watches with references of historical and memorable moments in horology. This one is no exception:
Thomas Prest was the first person to register a patent for the self winding watch. The year was 1820. Furthermore it so happens, that our first showroom and office was located on one of the most historical avenues in Copenhagen. The exact address was Frederiksberg Alle 8, 1820 Frederiksberg.

Online the watch looks nice but in person my first thoughts were that the build and look of the watch was not worth the price. I expected more refinement in the watch strap, more weight in the watch itself, and the dial to be more pearly white than painted white. So I’d have given it a 2/3 stars with first impressions because I did not feel it was worth the price. I’ve worn it over time and gotten accustomed to it and that increases my rating for this review but I’m still not sure if it’s worth the price.
I love seeing people mix fashions of other eras together for an expression of ‘now’, with historical awareness, sometimes nostalgia, and keen sense that fickle tomorrow can either remember or forget today. The About Vintage 1820 is a modern looking watch with a large statement face, but with the refinements and fashion of a vintage timepiece. It works equally whether booted and suited, or in casual short summer cottons. The watch sings ‘boutique’, something that seems thoroughly modern to me, yet artisanal as I imagine things once were - neither brand and logo ostentation, nor mass induced trendy consumer pulp. I think tomorrow will not only remember boutiques like About Vintage and watches like the 1820, but will be defined by them. My only issue is that I now want more of these beautiful About Vintage timepieces.
